United Enhances Mobile App with Personalized Connection Features for Summer Travel

As travelers gear up for peak summer travel, United Airlines has launched new, personalized mobile app features that make catching connecting flights easier. Customers with connecting flights at United’s U.S. hub airports can now access a special section of the app that includes a countdown to connecting flights, customized turn-by-turn directions to their connecting gate with estimated walk times, real-time flight status updates, tips for longer layovers, and notifications if United’s industry-leading ConnectionSaver technology has been activated to hold the plane for them.

These exclusive mobile app features expand on United’s ConnectionSaver technology, an AI-powered tool that has saved more than 3.3 million customer connections since launching in 2019. ConnectionSaver automatically identifies departing flights that can be held for connecting customers without delaying other passengers. Now, customers have full visibility into their connecting flights right on their phone screens.

During a recent beta test, more than 350,000 customers used the new app features, achieving a 98% success rate in making their connections. United’s award-winning mobile app is a game-changer, and these enhancements will give customers even more real-time details about their flights for an improved travel experience.

“We know that giving people more information, in a transparent and easy-to-understand way, can help de-stress the connecting flight experience,” said David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer. “With these new features, our customers will have even more peace of mind during their journey.”

The new mobile app features cater to different connection scenarios, including:

  • Comfortable Connections: Personalized status updates, gate-to-gate directions, and tips for navigating airports and layovers.
  • Tight Connections: Key information like boarding time, walking time, and gate number, plus notifications if ConnectionSaver holds the next flight.
  • Missed Connections: Automatic rebooking options to get customers back on their way.

United plans to further enhance these features, including adding more languages, detailed airport navigation, and real-time text message updates. The airline continues to lead the industry in implementing new technologies to improve the customer experience, from seamless bag tracking to real-time weather updates and personalized rebooking during disruptions.
