In a collaborative effort to nurture future hospitality professionals, Siyam World Maldives recently partnered with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) to host the Discover Tourism: Explore Career Pathways programme. The initiative welcomed 21 students from Kudafari School’s Grades 9 and 10, providing an immersive half-day experience designed to showcase the diverse career opportunities within the tourism industry.
The programme offered students a comprehensive glimpse into resort operations, allowing them to explore critical areas including guest services, culinary operations, recreation, and sustainability practices. Through guided tours and interactive sessions, participants gained valuable insights into the skills, teamwork, and passion required to excel in world-class hospitality.

This session represented the 8th edition of the Discover Tourism initiative, a national programme spearheaded by MATI to encourage young Maldivians to consider careers in tourism. Key representatives from MATI, including Executive Director Rafil Mohamed and Communications Strategist Reena Abdul Wahid, participated alongside Sun Siyam’s Director of Training and Development Ahmed Ibrahim.
The programme’s approach goes beyond traditional career guidance, offering students a hands-on understanding of the hospitality sector’s dynamic environment. By providing direct exposure to resort operations, the initiative aims to inspire curiosity and ambition among young Maldivians, potentially cultivating the next generation of industry leaders.
Commitment to Youth Development
Siyam World Maldives emphasized its dedication to supporting youth development within the tourism sector. The resort believes that investing in young talent is crucial for sustaining the Maldives’ reputation as a world-leading tourism destination. By creating opportunities for students to explore potential career paths, the programme helps bridge the gap between educational learning and real-world professional experiences.
The Discover Tourism initiative reflects a broader commitment to empowering local communities and developing indigenous talent within the Maldivian tourism industry. Such programmes not only provide valuable learning experiences but also highlight the diverse and exciting career opportunities available in hospitality and tourism.
As the Maldives continues to be a premier global tourism destination, initiatives like these play a critical role in ensuring a sustainable and innovative future for the industry. By nurturing curiosity, creativity, and professional skills among young students, Siyam World Maldives and MATI are actively contributing to the long-term success of Maldivian tourism.
