Phu Quoc Emerges as a Luxury Island Destination with Regent Resort Leading the Way

Vietnam’s Phu Quoc island is cementing its status as a premier luxury travel destination, thanks to the growing number of high-end resorts that offer the wellness and relaxation experiences affluent travelers crave. At the forefront of this trend is the Regent Phu Quoc, which celebrated its third anniversary in April and has witnessed significant changes in tourism patterns since its opening.

According to Sriram Kailasam, the general manager of Regent Phu Quoc, the island has seen a surge in airlift and visa-exempt status, which has greatly boosted visitor numbers. “Travellers are increasingly seeking authentic experiences that enable them to connect with the local culture and environment while enjoying top-notch hospitality,” Kailasam said.

In the three years since the resort’s debut, Kailasam has observed a growing demand for luxury wellness retreats, adventure activities, and culinary experiences that showcase regional flavors. Additionally, travelers are seeking more flexible booking options and personalized services, a trend the Regent Phu Quoc has been quick to adapt to.

One of the resort’s greatest achievements has been its ability to attract repeat guests, with nearly 25% of visitors returning. “In just three years, we have successfully hosted two buyouts for international organizations and have nearly 25% of our guests returning, which indicates that we’re on the right track,” Kailasam said. This has been driven in part by the resort’s loyalty program, IHG One Rewards, which offers tailored benefits such as room upgrades, flexible check-in and check-out, and bespoke itineraries.

To further enhance the guest experience, the Regent Phu Quoc introduces different seasonal programs throughout the year. For example, the Monsoon Program focuses on wellness, helping to foster a deep connection with guests and ensuring each visit is truly memorable.

However, Kailasam acknowledged that one of the biggest challenges facing Phu Quoc is its limited connectivity to Europe and the Middle East through full-service airlines, which he said is “essential for a destination like Phu Quoc, and for luxury resorts.” On a positive note, the island has seen an increase in regional connectivity through low-cost carriers, making it easier for travelers to reach the destination quickly and efficiently.

As Phu Quoc continues to evolve as a luxury island destination, the Regent Phu Quoc remains at the forefront, offering guests a unique blend of authentic experiences, personalized service, and seasonal programming that sets it apart in the increasingly competitive Maldives travel market.
