During President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s first state visit to the Maldives, the two nations outlined an ambitious roadmap for collaboration across multiple strategic sectors.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu welcomed his Sri Lankan counterpart by highlighting the profound historical and geographical connections between the two Indian Ocean neighbors. Describing the nations as “kindred spirits,” Muizzu emphasized their shared maritime heritage and cultural interconnectedness.

Sri Lanka’s ambitious goal of achieving 70 percent renewable energy by 2030 resonated with the Maldives’ progressive waste management and sustainability initiatives.
