Malaysia Airlines Expands South India Presence with Increased Trivandrum Flights

Malaysia Airlines is significantly expanding its reach in South India, announcing a boost in flight frequencies to Trivandrum (Trivandrum International Airport). Beginning September 12, 2025, a fifth weekly flight will be added to the Trivandrum – Kuala Lumpur route, culminating in daily service commencing December 1, 2025. Tickets for these increased frequencies are available for purchase immediately.

This expansion builds upon the route’s successful launch in November 2023, which initially offered twice-weekly flights before increasing to four times weekly in April 2024. The airline’s growth reflects strong passenger demand and underscores its commitment to the Indian market.

The increased frequency is further complemented by Malaysia Airlines’ partnership with Kerala Tourism under the “Look East” initiative, aimed at strengthening travel connections between East Asia and Kerala. This collaboration aims to boost tourism and trade between the two regions.

The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Dersenish Aresandiran, of Malaysia Aviation Group, stated, “India remains a key focus market for Malaysia Airlines, and this frequency increase reaffirms our dedication to meeting the growing demand for air travel from South India. With daily flights to Trivandrum, we are well-positioned to offer greater flexibility and convenience for both business and leisure travellers, while supporting trade and tourism flows between our two countries.”

Malaysia Airlines currently operates a substantial network within India, with 76 weekly flights connecting ten major cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Trivandrum. The addition of the new Trivandrum flights will increase this number to 77 weekly flights by December 2025.

Adding further value to its services, Malaysia Airlines offers its Bonus Side Trip (BST) program to passengers traveling from India to Malaysia. This program provides a complimentary side trip to one of seven domestic destinations within Malaysia, allowing international travelers to explore the country’s diverse culture, nature, and heritage as part of their itinerary. This initiative enhances the overall travel experience and encourages exploration beyond Kuala Lumpur.

The expansion of services to Trivandrum highlights Malaysia Airlines’ strategic investment in the Indian market and its commitment to providing enhanced connectivity and travel options between India and Malaysia. The increased flight frequency, coupled with the Bonus Side Trip program, positions the airline to cater to the growing demand for air travel between the two countries and further strengthens its role as a key gateway to Asia.
