Velana International Airport has achieved a significant milestone with the commencement of beOnd Airlines’ services from its new Terminal 1 facility. The luxury carrier becomes the third airline to operate from the terminal, following the strategic relocations of Maldivian and Air Arabia.
A ceremonial event marking this important transition was attended by key government and aviation officials, including Minister Ali Arif from the President’s Office and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) leadership. MACL’s CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Lamaan, and board members joined beOnd representatives to celebrate the occasion.
The inaugural launch was highlighted by a special ceremony featuring the official opening of beOnd’s check-in counters. Forty-three departing passengers received welcome gifts, while the airline’s inaugural Flight B4091 was honored with a traditional water salute. Thirty-five arriving passengers were greeted with vibrant cultural performances and authentic Maldivian hospitality, showcasing the nation’s warm welcome.
Terminal 1’s strategic design accommodates a diverse range of carriers, from national airlines to low-cost and luxury operators. The facility is rapidly progressing towards its vision of becoming a premier aviation hub, with four additional airlines expected to relocate this month.
This expansion represents a significant step forward for Maldives’ aviation infrastructure, demonstrating the country’s commitment to enhancing travel experiences and supporting growing tourism and transportation sectors.
