Velana International Airport has reached a significant milestone with beOnd becoming the third airline to commence services from its newly renovated Terminal 1. The strategic relocation marks an important step in the airport’s expansion and modernization efforts.
A ceremonial ribbon-cutting event celebrated the airline’s inaugural operations, attended by key government and airport officials, including Minister Ali Arif from the President’s Office and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) leadership. MACL’s CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Lamaan, and board members were present to welcome beOnd’s arrival.
The launch ceremony featured a special welcome for the airline’s first passengers, with 43 departing travelers receiving commemorative gifts. Flight B4091 was honored with a traditional water salute, symbolizing the significance of the moment. Arriving passengers were greeted with vibrant cultural performances that showcased the Maldives’ renowned hospitality.
Terminal 1’s design reflects a forward-thinking approach to aviation infrastructure, accommodating a diverse range of carriers from national airlines to low-cost and luxury operators. The facility is strategically positioned to become a premier hub for both tourism and international travel, with four additional airlines expected to relocate to the terminal this month.
