This move is expected to unlock new economic opportunities for residents. Complementing this decision, the government signed agreements for a critical land reclamation project and the construction of a multipurpose school hall. As a further boost to local services, a new Bank of Maldives ATM was inaugurated, enhancing financial accessibility for island residents.
Kihaadhoo witnessed substantial educational and infrastructure developments. A school extension project was approved, featuring a new science laboratory, while a comprehensive shore protection project was successfully concluded. The 2026 budget proposals include critical infrastructure improvements such as erosion control in the northern region, relocation of the powerhouse, and construction of new Fenaka offices. In a significant healthcare enhancement, the President committed to providing an ambulance this year and planning a health centre extension for the following year. Another Bank of Maldives ATM service was also introduced to improve financial services.
The Dhonfan visit focused on addressing long-delayed water and sewerage projects. The government has instructed Malé Water and Sewerage Company to recruit additional personnel to expedite these critical infrastructure improvements. A substantial land reclamation agreement covering 13 hectares was signed, aimed at expanding harbour capacity and creating a designated swimming area. Additionally, a comprehensive school development project was approved, which includes new classrooms, a multipurpose hall, a library, and a science laboratory.
In Dharavandhoo, the President outlined ambitious plans for regional development. He committed to upgrading Dharavandhoo Airport through Island Aviation Services, recognizing its strategic importance as a regional transport hub. The comprehensive development plan encompasses road and harbour improvements, tourism initiatives, and healthcare sector upgrades.
