The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands Earns Prestigious Recognition for Sustainability Efforts

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is proud to announce that it has earned the Forbes VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality badge, a coveted recognition for its commitment to environmental protection and responsible hospitality practices. This achievement comes on the heels of the resort’s recent Green Globe Certification, which underscores its dedication to minimizing its environmental impact, promoting sustainable tourism, and fostering a sustainable environment for future generations.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition, which reflects our team’s tireless efforts to ensure that our operations not only meet but exceed the highest standards of sustainability,” said Renato de Oliveira, General Manager at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. “Our commitment to environmental stewardship is a core part of our brand identity, and we are proud to be a leader in responsible tourism in the Maldives.”

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands’ dedication to sustainability is evident in every aspect of its operations, from its design and construction to its daily practices. The resort is thoughtfully designed to minimize its impact on the environment, with features such as a coral regeneration program, a 100-foot Banyan tree dedicated to the late architect Kerry Hill, and a commitment to using locally sourced materials and minimizing single-use plastics.

In addition to its environmental initiatives, the resort is also committed to supporting its local community and promoting ocean conservation awareness. In 2024, the resort conducted eight educational excursions with local schools, including a recycling competition and coral restoration initiatives. The resort has also partnered with climate activist Saad Amer, who has inspired guests and staff with his insights on climate change, and oceanographer Jean-Michel Cousteau, who has led educational excursions with students from local universities and provided guests with experiences focused on environmental preservation.

“We are committed to ongoing innovation and excellence in sustainability, and we are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint,” said de Oliveira. “We believe that sustainability is not just a practice, but a philosophy that informs everything we do.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands will soon launch a Coral Adoption Project, allowing guests to contribute to environmental initiatives, and a new package featuring Saad Amer, the resort’s Sustainability Champion, will offer educational and inspiring activities designed to deepen guests’ understanding of the local environment and support the surrounding community.
