Maldivian Government Sets Sights on Future of Addu Tourism

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Ministry of Tourism, led by Minister Ibrahim Faisal, has announced plans to host a prestigious tourism symposium in Addu next year, aimed at elevating the city’s status as a top destination in the Maldives.

Scheduled to take place in either the first or second quarter of the year, the symposium will be organized by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and aims to bring together international tour operators, airlines, and popular booking platforms to explore business opportunities in the region. Representatives from key markets such as India and China are expected to attend the event.

The symposium is seen as a crucial step in developing tourism in Addu, with Minister Faisal highlighting its potential for extensive networking opportunities. “This is a key initiative that will enable us to build a network of stakeholders and partners that will drive the growth of tourism in Addu,” he stated.

In addition to Addu’s stakeholders, the symposium will also invite tourism industry representatives from other southern regions, including Fuvahmulah City and islands within GA. and GDh. Atolls. Minister Faisal emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach to tourism development, acknowledging that success requires coordination across different regions.

The government’s vision extends beyond Addu, with plans to host similar symposiums in other areas of the country. This strategy aligns with the 2025 vision of increased promotional efforts for the Maldives, with Minister Faisal expressing confidence that the initiatives will yield significant opportunities for the next four years.

The upcoming symposium is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Addu’s position in the tourism market, fostering partnerships, and promoting growth in the southern atolls.

“The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation is excited to host the tourism symposium in Addu, which will be a tremendous opportunity for international operators to learn more about the unique features and attractions of Addu,” said a spokesperson for the MMPRC.
